Everyone has a story to tell. When we make the connection between our story and God's great story, we come away with HIStory, which involves each and every one of us.
"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." -Jeremiah 33:3
I had woken up joyful and with such peace. The day prior my daughter had taken one of the biggest steps in her faith that she will ever take. But after one breakfast conversation, just one, I felt depleted and utterly discouraged. From one minute to the next I I felt I didn't know how to move on. "What's my next step," I thought. I knew what I needed to do. I needed to get on my knees in prayer and supplication to our Lord. Jeremiah tells us what to do when we are at a crossroads in life or just feeling discouraged:
"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."
Wow! This is powerful. God gives us the remedy: Him! I often remember this verse and on this particular day, I did just that. Right on my kitchen floor I knelt and pleaded with Him. My circumstances were out of my control and strength. I spoke to our Heavenly Father. I poured out my heart to Him. When I was done, the problem was still there, but I had a sense of peace and understanding, that although I didn't know exactly how it would all play out, He was in control, He was at the wheel, and He was looking down on me in love and infinite grace.
God knows our exact needs. We all respond to circumstances differently and we all have specific things that work in our time of need. Sometimes it's hearing Him through His Word, sometimes it's hearing from a friend with Godly counsel, other times it's hearing a worship song. On this particular occasion, for me, it was receiving the best phone call ever from my sister! She had no idea she had called me at the perfect time. The Holy Spirit had filled her with words of encouragement that just lifted me up. I was in awe of His response to my need. Our God is a personal God and He is real. He sees you. Just like He saw Hagar and came to her in her time of need.
"Your servant is in your hands," Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her. The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?"
God seeks and He sees us. Think about this for a minute. The creator of the universe cares so much for each one of us that He seeks us. Praise Him for this. And when He finds us, He desires to understand us. He is personal and specific with us. He asks Hagar where she is coming from and where she is going. But then He gives guidance and direction. He doesn't abandon her and leave her to figure it all out on her own. To better answer His question, we can see it this way: she is coming from a place of hurt and rejection but she's headed to a place of hope. Look at what He says after she answers:
"I'm running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.
Then the angel of the LORD told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her." The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count."
So He listens to her first, and then tells her what to do. And finally, He blesses her! So He seeks her, finds her, asks her, listens to her, answers her and then blesses her. Is this not the most perfect relationship for any woman (men too of course)? Wow, He truly knows us. Who else do you know that answers and responds in such a way? He is our Lord and Savior and He longs to be close to us.
Later in the conversation I shared with my sister what I had been doing the minute prior to her call. God used her to lift me up and in the process she was blessed because of it. It's never about us, it's always about Him!
Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. -Psalm 115:1
What circumstance are you living today where you need Him? Call to Him, He is waiting. He will answer you and bless you!
If you are not going through difficult times (Praise God) who can you call and bless today? God wants to use you. Let Him!
God is able! Amen!
I leave you with the beautiful Lyrics from Hillsong:
God is able…
God is Able
He will never fail
He is almighty God
Greater than all we seek
Greater than all we ask
He has done great things
Lifted up, He defeated the grave
raised to life, our God is able
In His name, we overcome
For the Lord, our God is able
God is with us
God is on our side
He will make a way
Far above all we know
Far above all we hope
He has done great things
